What is the Cost of Eating Out in 2017?
Heading into 2017 food has never been such a popular subject from Instagram ‘Foodies’ to Masterchef and the Great British Bake Off. Following on from this we’ve seen an increasing number of restaurants opening, all trying to satisfy the modern consumer’s more educated and sophisticated taste buds as well as delivering an experience they haven’t had before. The ‘casual dining’ restaurant seems to be the new craze where a quality food offering is balance with a relaxed restaurant feel.
In 2017, the overall cost of eating out will be higher than it has ever been. Horizons, the food service experts, explain that whilst food prices are rising slower than inflation the average cost of a 3 course meal across all sectors is now £28.59 excluding drinks and gratuity*.
And the standard of food you can expect for this price? Average, as the survey suggests. So, if you’re looking for something a little extra special then expect to pay in excess of £50 per head and increase that still further if you’re living in London.
With the competition for food so high restaurants may have slowed the inflation of their food prices but to make up for this the margins on alcohol are forever rising meaning the price of eating out can get very expensive even for those teetotal consumers.
The result of this is that it’s easy to spend in excess of £50 per person eating out and that’s NOT even including the price of a tip, taxi or babysitter for those parents who are looking for an evening off.
But remember, this is just if you’re aiming for something ‘middle-of-the-road’ as anything beyond that is going to come with a much bigger price tag.

What About Hiring a Private Chef?
In the past, hiring a private chef had been reserved only for the super rich but in 2015 we launched Dineindulge to try and change all of this.
We now offer menus from £24.99 per head, which covers the cost of a professional chef coming into your home and cooking a delicious meal for you and your friends whilst delivering a unique experience that is hard to match in any restaurant or hotel.
Looking for something extra special? Then even that is very affordable with our 9 course Tasting Menu coming in at under £69.99 per head.
You also have the added advantage of drinking your own wines and beers at supermarket prices compared to the 300-400% inflated prices you’d pay in a bar or restaurant.
All in all the cost of hiring an exclusive private chef into your home to deliver the ultimate dining experience is, not just affordable or comparative to eating out, it can even be cheaper!
